Henry Louis Gates' Arresting Officer Interviewed

The local Boston Fox affiliate found Sgt. James Crowley in his backyard and asked him for his comments on the Henry Louis Gates story (essentially how it feels to be called "stupid" by the president). He is disappointed by the attention to the story and proclaims:

"There will be no apology."

He was not called stupid by the president. The president said that he was behaving stupidly. There is a big difference.

Yes, a stupid cop acted like a stupid cop on a power trip. We don't even need to get into the racial issue to sort this out.

Black or white, all too many cops will arrest any citizen with an attitude unfortunate enough to cross their path for "disrespecting" them or "mouthing off" or "getting uppity." None of these is illegal, but these jerk cops know they can make your life unpleasant and "teach you a lesson" by trumping up some BS charge like this jerk did with Gates. He did not arrest Gates because Gates was a threat or commited a crime; he arrested Gates because he did not like being insulted. That is an abuse of power, plain and simple. People who want to pretend the cop did nothing wrong need to explain how it is OK to arrest Gates AFTER he had already proven he lived in that house. Well, this jerk cop decided to flex his muscles because his feelings were hurt by that mean mean mean Gates calling him names. The irony: now the poor baby had his feelings hurt by the President, too. WAAAAH!

The only difference between jerk cop's arrest of Gates and the (probably hundreds of) BS arrests this jerk cop has probably made in the past on similar trumped up charges is that Gates was able to make jerk cop's life uncomfortable, too.

Luke, you're forgetting two things. First,if I went out onto my front lawn and yelled at everyone who passed by, how soon would the cops come and arrest me? Pretty darn quick. Sure, its my property and I'm a citizen and I have rights, but I'm being disorderly. Everyone else has the expectation of a little peace and quiet.

Second, had Crowley insulted Gates, it would be racism and people would want him fired. But because its the other direction, the cop just has to take it? I'm not sure you're allowed to stand and yell and insult anyone in this country. Try it the next time you're at the bank and see how fast you get thrown out. Or the grocery store, and see if the cops show up. I'll tell you what, you come down here, we'll go out into the city, and see how long it takes for me to get arrested for yelling at a cop. If its more than 30 seconds, I'll buy you dinner.

Did anyone stop to think that Gate's thinking was an abuse of power? It's the whole I pay your paycheck to back off cops attitude and I can say whatever I want to you. You insult someone on the street like that and you will get a black eye or worse. What right does he think he has doing this to an officers face and think he would get away scot free? Dumbest Uni professor I have ever heard of... but hey, just my opinion...

Sgt Crowley is a respected police officer and very well trained. Gates is the radical freek that started yelling and shooting off his big mouth. He deserved to get locked up. If Sgt. Crowley has a beer with Obama, he loses my respect and thousands of others. No matter what is said behind closed doors, it will not be told by the media the same way. It will be another Obama racist lie!!!!!
