Even at Comedy Central's own award show (brilliantly parodied by South Park), Stephen Colbert couldn't beat Jon Stewart in the Late Night Comedy Series Category, which led to this cathartic confrontation.
10. Triumph Occupies Wall Street
Plenty of celebrities made their way down to Zuccotti Park this fall, including Kanye West, Geraldo Rivera and Alec Baldwin. But none came out of it with a funnier video than Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.9. Marc Maron's Dane Cook Impression
Marc Maron had a triumphant year, with WTF really coming into focus as the best comedy podcast out there. This appearance on Jimmy Fallon when he debuted his Dane Cook impression (and first ever physical comedy bit) really put him over the top.8. Bill Maher's GOP Movie Reel
After the Republicans played this clip from The Town in Congress, Bill Maher showed an extended reel of scary movie scenes they could use to psych up/intimidate their members.7. CollegeHumor's Fucksquare
Every year, CollegeHumor puts out some of the best original comedy video on the web. This year's crop included such gems as I Wish My Dad Was Will Smith, Obama's July 4th BBQ, We Are the 1%, and my personal favorite Fucksquare.6. Breaking Bad vs. The Simpsons Mashup
My favorite TV show of the year gets Simpson-ized, just when I was starting to really miss it.5. Zach Galifianakis Lip-Syncs 'Tomorrow' on SNL
It's rare these days when an SNL host gets to simply do their stand-up act on the show. Zach Galifianakis did that, and much more, in the best SNL monologue of the year.4. Louis C.K. Defends Masturbation on Fox News
This is just one of many excellent moments from the year of Louis C.K., but the fact that he filmed this in the actual Fox News studios makes it my favorite.3. Tom Hanks on Toddlers and Tiaras
Tom Hanks is a pro at doing unexpectedly hilarious things on late night TV, but none can top this elaborate sketch from Jimmy Kimmel Live.2. Christopher Meloni is Tony Bologna in 'The Vigilonga'
The Daily Show may not have been the first late night show to tackle Occupy Wall Street in a big way (Stephen Colbert gets that honor) but Jon Stewart did introduce the funniest Occupy-inspired character of the year with Christopher Meloni's pepper-spraying cop Tony Bologna.
1. Arrested Development Reunion Chicken Dance
The comedy event of the year has to be the Arrested Development reunion at the New Yorker Festival, which gave us not only the news that the show is returning with new episodes on Netflix, but also the full cast doing the chicken dance.
