Gotcha Morning | #RomneyShambles

Mitt Romney had only been in the UK for a handful of hours before #Romneyshambles starting trending on Twitter there. Taken from the term "omnishambles," made popular by the British political comedy The Thick of It, and recently uttered at a Prime minister's questions session, Romneyshambles refers to everything Mitt Romney has done wrong so far on his trip to London. For someone who has been openly trying to avoid saying the wrong thing about foreign policy while abroad, he's had plenty of missteps.
It all started with a comment Mitt Romney made during his interview with Brian Williams about London not being as ready as they should be for the Olympic games, which begin today. That criticism was generally thought to be unwarranted and in poor taste diplomatically and was strongly rebuked by Prime minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson.
But that wasn't all. Mitt Romney also appeared to forget the Labour Party leader's name, acknowledged what was supposed to be a secret meeting with the head of M16 and distanced himself from a racially-tinged comment by an advisor about his Anglo-Saxon heritage.
The narrative of this disastrous journey overseas was conveniently chronicled in a new video from the Democrats this morning.
If nothing else, Mitt Romney's series of blunders in London betray his serious lack of experience dealing with foreign governments, even when they are our closest of allies. All eyes will be on Romney when he heads to Israel tomorrow to see if he fairs any better there.
